Reactivation

I have had to reactivate windows twice in the last 2 days because I:
1.Disabled my network card. 2. Enabled my network card.
This seem to me to be a little unusual. In the past I haven't had to
reactivate unless I changed a mobo.
Is this a glitch or has Microsoft changed it's policy on hardware changes,
possibly through one of the Windows updates?

Don't expect any code out of MS to be perfect, especially it's
copy-protection schemes. The errors in their copy-protection generate
revenue for MS by getting ill-informed consumers to buy support and
copies of software they wouldn't have needed if there was no
copy-protection at all.

No, not by itself, but if other changes were made recently, even minor ones,
messing with the nic will put it over the edge.

Sigh. And you're continuing to put up with this shit? Go and get a free and
open operating system. You won't be sorry.

Yep, Product Activation is nothing but trouble. And hopefully it will
end up biting MS in its ass.

Yep, M$ and a bunch of other corps like symantec assume you are guilty
of stealing their bug ridden software until you can prove that you
didn't via their activation fiasco. They had a thing on CNN a couple
of weeks back where Symantec had blown it because of some problem that
cause 1000's of activations to fail before they caught the problem.
All they ended up dong was pissing a bunch of law abiding, honest
owners of their software off and exposing them to some bad press on
national TV. It didn't bother the ones that really stole their
software since they already had ways around the activation fiasco.

Copy protections, activation schemes, double upside down/rightside out
100 digit long serial systems have all failed to stop software theft.
All they do is put the honest owner of the software through hurdles
before they can use the software while the REAL thieves of the
software are already using it because they had a way around any and
all methods created by the software maker to keep their product from
be used by unlawful users.

I don't steal software but I take exception of having to prove that I
didn't before I am allowed to use something that I just shelled out a
bunch of money for and have to prove again, over and over every time I
change the least little thing on my own computer.

The difference is that a F word has no place in a discussion, but the word
"ass" could be used several ways that don't necessarily mean slang - and
many filters don't block the sh|t word either.

How about "phuck"?

Sure it does. It was an integral part of a joke that related directly
to discussing the speed (or lack thereof) with which MS releases service
packs and new OSes.

No duh. Jesus entered Jerusalem riding an ass, but that doesn't have
anything to do with XP either.

Ass isn't on the list, but A-hole is. And for the S-word in the previos
two post in this thread, usually even if someone does get away with it,
when I reply to them, MY post doesn't get through! The curse filters
must be BSOD, or something.

Yeah, they've probably got a special filter in place just for YOU. LOL!

Curse the @#$%^&*! curse filters!

They probably filter out raggle-fraggus too.

Try using the new way they have the word pronounced in the new

Silly little one! They used that on the Original BSG, decades ago.

It's amazing that Microsoft was able to push activation on the
public. "We're going to make you prove you are legitimate before
we'll allow you to use the software that you *just bought and paid
for* and by the way, you'll have to keep doing it every time you
make a major upgrade."

Just live with it or switch to Linux. No one is forcing you to feel like a
thief, consider the activation as a cost savings measure that you are
helping with. If the piracy increased without bounds Windows might cost a
lot more than it currently does.
