My son replaced his motherboard, graphics board, and upgraded his RAM for
better "gaming". When we restarted after the replacements, windows wanted to
be reactivated. His computer is using an OEM version of XP Home supplied by E
Machines. When we stepped through both the internet and telephone activation
processess, they both failed. Who do I talk to so that I can reassure MS that
we are not threatening Mr. Gates' billions - we just want to keep my boy's
machine from dying in the next couple of days??

Your not going to like the answer
That OEM version of XP was/is tied to that E-Machine motherboard.Without it your
license to XP is dead.
You will be told that you will need to buy another copy of XP or another
license.
But then again...........I could be wrong

When you call in there should be and agent (person) that gets you the number
for activiation? If you explain that to him/her they should let you have the
numbers needed. If its automated now? (Its been quite a while since I have
had to call) There should be a selection that allows you to speak to someone.
I had same problem some time ago and they gave me numbers over the phone....

E-Machines supplied you with an OEM (original equipment manufacture) version
of Windows XP. Microsoft does not/will not support it. E-Machines will no
longer support it, because it is no longer "their" system.
