I have been running windows xp for 2 years. Today I get a
message that I must reactivate it within three days or it
will shut down. What is that about? How do I do it, the
software came on the computer? What is an I.D. number?

Or am I just screwed,..again?

Something has changed in your computer, and the cumulative effect of
the changes is sufficient to make it significantly different from what
was there when Windows XP was originally installed.

You should be able to reactivate automatically over the Internet. Just
click on the Activation reminder when it pops up and tell it to
activate now. It should connect to the Internet and reactivate
without problems.

If there are problems then post a response back here with the details.

See MVP Alex Nichol's article on Product Activation at
http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm for an in-depth explanation of just
what Activation is and how it works.

Good luck
