I googled it and came up with the following pretty quickly; I guess it comes
with the Image Mixer software.

I just figured out how to do this myself. I was using SONIC DVD writing
software that came with the Sony DVD +- R, RW drive and loved it. The Image
Mixer sw has a driver that is called MicroStaff WINASPI. It should show up
in your programs tree. This causes havoc with just about any other writing
sw. If you attached your DVD Camcorder before installing the ImageMixer
software that is the reason you are having trouble.
In order to remedy this, you need to uninstall your MicroStaff WINASPI (it
has an uninstaller) first. Make sure your camcorder is not attached during
any of this !!! Step 2. Re-install any software that you use to write DVDs.
Step 3. Re-install the ImageMixer software using the default options when
prompted.
Step 4. Then (and only then) connect your Sony DVD Camcorder making sure it
is in the "playback" mode on the dial. This should do the trick.
