This is the way cubic splines work out; nothing you can do. I would say that
when the data shows such rapid jumps, a smooth curve is not appropriate
anyway.

I agree with Bernard. Using smooth curves is deceptive. I like to see
the data and decide for myself, or with the help of real curve fitting,
how the variables are related.
