Re-post: Where are updates for IE6 "stored"? Ferris? Anybody? Anyone?

In the hope of having this catch the eye of someone who would know, I have
re-posted. Forgive my impatience if you will.

A quasi-weird question here. Where are the updates for IE6 SP-1 stored? With
W98 are they placed somewhere in C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer ? In
which type of file?

Related question in an off-hand sort of way, and the reason I asked the
first question. A person (no... not I) had used TweakUI to hide the updates
which were listed in Add/Remove programs, and would like to get them back in
that A/R Programs dropdown. I know they only had 4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0;
Windows 98; .NET CLR 1.1.4322) ;SP1;Q867801;q313829;
I think that if the exact location of the related update entries could be
re-located, one could add them to Tweaks A/R Program list. Not so?

Thanks,

I'm not sure that you're going to find what you're looking for. I show 12
updates to IE (IE> Help> About) but none are listed in add/remove programs.
At times, I have had an update or 2 listed in add/remove programs. I haven't
deleted anything- they just come and go. Right now, there are none.

You may find something interesting (but probably not useful) in the (hidden)
folder [C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate] Or you may just find eyestrain and a
headache ;-) BTW, that folder path is for WinME- not sure it's the same
for Win98.

Or try Start> Run> qfecheck

Yeah Don, you're right. :-(

Have 11 showing in IE>Help>About. Add/Remove reveals two: Q867801; Q823353 ;
Those are all that show which pertain to IE/OE. I used to remember there
being others/more at one time or other as well. Hmmm... It's just as you've
said.

[C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate] is a regular folder in W98se (doesn't
appear "ghostly" hidden), but alas, of little use. There are one or two
..cabs in there and a few other things, but nothing that I found useful.
Actually, the path is [C:\Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4] where the bulk
resides. (a "whopping" 4 files, 2 .cabs, and 1 folder)
[C:\WINDOWS\Windows Update Setup Files] seems to be a possibility (?), yet
is predominantly .cabs too.

Forgot about Qfecheck. Ran it, lots of updated files, and lots of Windows98
files show, but I couldn't find anything (I couldn't... that's an important
caveat. hehe) germane to IE.

Thanks for your input, and for the reminder of a few (generally useful)
things I overlooked. <S>

have you done a search for uninstall files using
*uninstall* including hidden files - you find them for XP
that way and can delete the same.

Yeah "a"... I have. Found a few related .ini's which helped a little, but it
seems that most of these updates become "hidden, integrated, obscured"
within IE is my guess.

At any rate, it seems the person in question who was actually having the
problem (as I stated in my OP) may no longer have the problem, or else has a
bigger one, as I haven't "heard" anything further from them. Of course
inasmuch as the issue arose and got me to thinking, it did whet my curiosity
as to the actual whereabouts of these updates and where they *actually*
reside.

Thanks,
