Hi John,

There is a Group Policy that, if enabled, will "Hide My Network Places icon on
desktop". If you are the sole administrator of your computer, use the Group Policy
Editor (gpedit.msc) to Enable the following policy. Else, talk to your
Administrator.

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Desktop:
Hide My Network Places icon on desktop

Also, if you have never used gpedit.msc, and the computer in question is a
standalone(workgroup) computer, keep in mind that policies set using
Administrative Templates will effect all users of the computer (including
Administrators).

For more information see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles:

2000 in a Workgroup Setting

And if you have any questions specific to Group Policy, you may want to post in the
following newsgroup: win2000.group_policy
