Re-installing Windows XP - Full Version

N

I need some help. I purchased a full version of Windows
XP, since I lost the original CD that came with my desktop.

I have since pitched my desktop and am using a laptop
now. Long story short, it had some issues and I figured
hell with it, and did a re-install of Windows XP using
my "Purchased" Windows XP software.

I complete the process, all goes well, the computer is
clean and void of all the worthless software I've
installed over the past few months, great right? Wrong.

It tells me that I have exceeded the number of times I can
use the product key!!! What is going on?!? You pay $300
for a plastic CD, and if you change computers, you can't
install your software again? Is there some answer here?
I can't afford to go and spend $185 for another license.

Please advise, thank you in advance!

Assuming you have a retail version of XP. (oem versions are not
transferrable) All you have to do is call MS and get activated. Its just
saying that your key is already activated on another computer. If you wish
to transfer it to another computer you have to format the first computer,
install on second computer, then activate it on second computer. Everytime
you install xp you have to activate it. If it less than 120 days since your
last activation you have to call ms to get activated.

See www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm.

You are only allowed to install on one machine at a time. If
you try to install on a second one within 120 days of the first
activation, you will get this message. Then you use the 'activate by
phone' option, call the toll free number that will be given, explain
briefly, to say it is no longer on the original machine, and swap one
long number for another to type in
