Hi,
4 days on and I'm still having problems re-installing WinXP.
Have formatted both hard drives 22gb and 40gb. Set the smallest as main
drive in the bios. Formatted it using a floppy boot disk and then tried to
install winxp. Runs through the process as far as the "starting windows"
screen then still locks up!
Ran a PCDoctor disk to check everything and the only error it comes up with
is that there's no Hard Disk Controllers. Is this what's causing me problems?
What else should I be looing for? It never was this difficult formatting and
re-installing Win98.
I'd be grateful for any suggestions.
I'm probably overlooking the obvious.

you don't need a floppy disk anymore to format and
fdisk...you can do all that with the winXP CD. I also
would suggest to format to NTFS, since it's much better
and preferred for XP...or did you do that?

Usually when setup hangs at the area your hanging at it
means 1 of 3 things are happening:
1: Memory may be corrupted. Perhaps try pulling out a
stick if you have more than one. Try different scenerios
to test it out.

2: Perhaps your motherboard is not ACPI compliant. When it
says to press F6 to install third party raid/scsi drivers
hit F7. This will load a standard hal instead of an acpi
hal.

3: You may need drivers for your hard drive controllers.
Go to your mainboard manufacturer's website to see if
there are any raid/udma drivers. Perhaps check for a bios
update as well.
