New HP AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHZ Processor with 1 GB DDR SDRAM and 250 GB
SATA hard drive Win XP Home Edition.

The hard drive is currently partitioned as follows;
C NTSF Total 225 GB 216 GB Free
D Fat32 Total 7.5 GB 1.66 GB Free

I want to reinstall the O/S so that hopefully I can eliminate all the
bloatware and repartition at the same time. The current D partition holds
the Recovery system (OEM) and I assume it must remain as is in the new
setup. The current C is huge at 225 GB so what I would like to do is reserve
125 GB for future use, leaving me with 100 GB, which I was thinking of
dividing into 3/4 partitions. Does this make any sense, and if so, can I get
advice re the file system on the other partitions.

Thanks in advance.

If you reinstall HP's customized version of Windows XP,
it will return your hard drive to the original factory
configuration. The only thing you can do is to reinstall
Windows XP, then use a third-party partitioning program
to resize or create new partitions.

Thanks for the quick response, Carey. I must have misunderstood something in
my research, but I thought I read I could format any way I wanted. In any
event, if I can't during the reinstall, I believe I will have that option
with Partition Magic, later on. How about the other things, am I OK .

Thanks

Dan
