Re-install XP PRO but keep hardrive files intact

Hi,

I have just recovered from a worm infection and have begun to notice little
imperfections and malfunctioning here and there. For one: My CD-RW and DVD-RW
drives work and then don't work within 5 sec. time. They will read and then
not read.

Doing a little run through on my system I have found that some of the
malfunctioning devices have files/drivers in the system32 folder, the one
infected. So I suspect that the worms have corrupted some of the files and am
thinking of re-installing XP PRO.

BUT, I want to keep all I have intact(drive, folders, files, programs), and
not have to backup anything, just re-install XP and live on as if I have
never been infected. Can I do that?

Is there any article that covers such a reinstallation. Any advice, tips?

Thank You

Have you scanned your system for malware/spyware, these
could be causing this problem, use adaware
spybot search and destroy and hijackthis.
Reinstalling xp without losing files is called an inplace
upgrade, you won't lose your programs/data your service
packs and patches will have to be reapplied, I suggest you
download all these before the reinstall, and disconnect
from the internet while doing the reinstall, till you have
the firewall activated.
