Some moron re-installed Outlook on our computer. Does this mean the old
address book is now gone? We can't find them anywhere. They're certainly not
in the new address book. Please help. Thanks.

I just found out what actually happened. Someone attached their PDA to the
computer to input addresses into Outlook, and when they finished transferring
them from the PDA the old addresses which were originally in Outlook
disappeared. We can't find them anywhere! Do you know if they would have been
deleted entirely, or is there some reclusive hidden file somewhere in the
recesses of our laptop which holds the info? It's important to us, and if I
can find them I win dinner and drinks... please help!

If they did a "PDA overrides desktop" sync, the contacts on the desktop are
gone. Didn't you have a backup of the data on the desktop?

Thanks for your response. I don't know if they installed it as an override or
not... and if there was a backup, I don't know where it would be. I've run
some windows searches, but so far nothing. Maybe I'm not searching for the
correct file name or something.

Unless they're using Exchange Server, the data would be in a file with a .PST
extension and it may be in a hidden folder if they're using Windows 2000 or
XP. You can do a search on .PST files, then open each one in Outlook using
File | Open to see if it contains the missing data. For more on Outlook data
backup and restoration see
