Re- format

Read the manual that came with the machine or go to Dell's support site and
look up the information on how to Restore to factory default. If you received
any disks with the machine that are used to restore/recover, normally you put
the first disk in the CD tray, shutdown, wait approx 10 secs and reboot. You
should then get a prompt letting you know it will format/reinstall and ask if
you want to continue, reply Y (yes) and sit back.

If you didn't recieve any disks, they may have placed the restore/recover
files on a hidden partition and you will have to either have made a disk to get
to the partition, or an app/utility may be on your machine already.

If you plan to re-install XP make certain you have backed up any important
files.
Locate the key code sticker, it should be on the side on the case, don't do
anything until you locate it.
Then insert the XP CD, it will give you an option to delete the existing
partition and re-format.
