Re: Excel wont' prompt for password

Dave,
You're right about the folder permission but I dont'
understand why it didn't prompt her for the password.
She got read/execute on the folder but has
read/excute/write/modify on the worksheet. Excel should
have prompt her for a password right?

I don't think so. Excel/windows seem to work nicely on this. If the file is
marked readonly (via windows), excel won't bother asking the password.

If the user doesn't have the correct permissions for the folder/drive, then
excel respects that, too.

If she didn't have the folder/drive permissions (or the file is marked
readonly), then if she answered the password correctly, she still couldn't
update the file.

To force her to answer the prompt and then not use it seems like a waste of time
for the user and may give her a false sense that she can update it.

(I like the way this works. And I bet that if you have other files that you
mark readonly, you'll like it, too.)
