Dear Friends,

I am unable to decrypt few dir / files which i encrypted
few days back. Scenario is as follows :

OS - win 2k professional
Drives - C, D & E all NTFS
Active partition is C.
Few dir are encrypted on D Drive and hence resp. sub dir
and files are also encrypted.

Later on I formatted my C Drive and reinstalled the same
OS from fresh.

I can see all my dir / files and sub dir on D Drive
(encrypted as well as normal ones). But when i try to open
some file, it give me error that either files are in use
or you dont have enough permissions.

Please note that I am able to take ownership of all the
files / dir. But I am unable to change the attribute on
that directory from encrypt to not encrypted.

Could you kindly advise how to decrypt such files so that
I can access all my files /data.

I tried to use Advanced EFS Data recoivery Software ver
1.2 but could not decypt the files.

Your prompt reply will be highly appreciated.

Regards
Santosh

If you didn't back up the user profile or at least the key used to
encrypt your files,, then you're out of luck, that data is gone.

Search the Microsoft web site for EFS to learn how to prevent this from
happening in the future.
