Re-create Catalogue in XP Backup Utility

G

Using the Veritas backup Utility that comes with XP we have created several
backup sets using a SCSI Data DAT drive, each set comprising of several tapes.
The Backup Utility Catalogue on the computer has been lost & although the
software says it can re-create the catalogue from the tapes we cannot make it
work., after reading each tape it asks for the next one, as it does so the
Manage Media window shows the nuber of tapes in the set increasing, however
after the last tape in the set has been read it still asks for the next tape,
the only other option is to cancel which aborts the catologue process. Thus
we now have loads of tapes with backed up data that cannot be recovered.
Note before loosing the catalogue we recovered data from these tapes.
HELP!

If I remember correctly (it has been many years since I did tape backups)

1. Insert the 1st tape. It will then ask you to insert the last tape

2. Insert the last tape so the program can read the required info. It will
then ask you to reinsert the 1st tape

3. Insert the 1st tape and all subsequent tapes when instructed to.

I believe that if you don't initially insert the last tape when required to,
the program does not know how many tapes are in the set. It will keep asking
for more.

But, as I have said, it has been years since I worked with tape backups. And
then it was always a full blown copy of Backup Exec from Veritas - not the
stripped down/crippled version that came with an operating system.

If I am wrong here I am certain that others will subtly (Ha!) point me in
the correct direction.
