my hard drive is dying and will need to be replaced, will
the original key code work after re install XP or will I
need to contact MS and get a new code ?

Hi Dave,
You may have to contact MS. When you get ready to actvate XP on the new hard
drive. Run the Activation Wizard if it run though the process your OK if not
the wizard will prompt you to contact MS and will list a 800# explain your
situtation to the customer service rep.

clone it with the software that comes with your new drive
or from the manufacturers web site. A drive change should
not trigger a re-activation. If it does it will do it
online if it's been over 120 days, if not it will require
a call.

It will. See www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm and the Hint in Format a Hard
drive, for a means of conserving one 'vote' in activation against other
possible changes of hardware
