Re-activation of XP Pro

I had my laptop stolen with a copy of XP Pro - Full version I installed after
purchase. I still have the original disk, however when I load it on another
computer and go to register it says that that lisence is already in use.

Is there a way to re-activate or make my new installation legal? If not what
is the downside of running it not registered.

thanks,
Ken

I hate to tell you but if the version of XP came with the laptop it is very
likely an OEM version which is forever tied to the laptop. When the laptop
was stolen they also stole your Windows. If you have an insurance claim make
sure the replacement also includes Windows and any software you had on the
laptop.

He said it was XP-Pro full. It would seem to me that if Microsoft cares at
all about their customers (everyone stop laughing!) that he'd be able to
call in and arrange to have the old key disabled and a replacement key
and COA sent to him. However I don't know their official policy here.

That would be great. Would you happen to know an easy way to find the support
number. I've spend hours on the MS website and gotten very little
information. A key word anything would be great! Thanks.

Scroll down to "How to activate Windows XP by phone" and follow the
directions.

When you try to activate and it fails then there should be a number to
phone. If it is the full retail version then there should be no problems.
