RDP at 2, 4 or 16 colour

We have been have some screen drawing speed issues with TS on Win2K. I
have been trying to force the RDP5 client to be able to use 2,4 or 16
colour to improve this. Even though the server is now 16 colour on the
console the minimum on RDPDD seems to be 256 colour. Does anybody know
a way round this or know if it will even help?

Thanks

John

The display settings on the console of the server have nothing to do
with the settings for the client. I don't think that trying to go
lower than 256 colours will improve the performance noticeably.
What kind of connection are these users on?

Citrix with their Goto MyPC has a low colour highly optimised low
bandwidth client (what gave me the idea). Do you know if Citrix or
Win2003 requires less bandwidth than TS on Win2000?

I'm not sure, but I believe that ica and rdp 5.2 require more or
less the same. Citrix has a technology called "SpeedScreen", which
can help in situations with high latency.

I would advice you to download Brian Madden's
Terminal Server Performance Tuning Guide
http://www.rtosoft.com/pages/whitepaper_ts_fbm.asp

There's a chapter about Network Performance issues that's really
worthwhile. You have to find out if it is a lack of bandwidth or
high latency that is causing your performance problems.
