Random sample of alphanumeric data

William

I have been unsuccessful in having Excel generate a
sample from a population of alphanumeric data (ticket
numbers that have alphanumeric chars. as part of the ID).
In using the built-in Data Analysis tool add-
in 'Sampling' on this data, I receive the error:
"Input range contains non-numeric data."

Seems like I have stumped our Excel guru and have been
unsuccessful at finding anything on the Microsoft site.

Appreciate any help.

That works GREAT. Thanks so much.

You can list your data in one column and use the RAND function in an
adjacent column, then sort on the RAND column. Pick the first however many
you need. See here
