my computer froze so we had a guy fix it but my computer had 512mb and when i
got it back i only had 383mb did he remove some and how do i get it back

call and ask him what he did to the ram.

it is a good possibility that the extra is now devoted to video card extra memory.
but call him to be sure.

The techie may have removed a bad stick of memory that failed a memory test
and was the ultimate cause of the freeze ups.. did he not tell you what he
had done? maybe you should talk with him and ask exactly what he did do.. it
is impossible for anybody here to make a judgment on exactly what happened..

Hi Mike

It will give me the answer, if 512 in machine belarc will say then we can
assume video has taken it so bios adjustment needed.

It a mistake has been made and only 383 put back (again not sure if shared
video) belarc reports the actual, physical memory installed.

See you are getting a pasting from your original post, no one got a sense of
humor any more... ;-)

Pop

It still would be difficult to know for certain.. the tech guy could have
changed anything.. re humour, the trolls will pick on anything MS or MVP..
that's how they get their kicks.. the OP had already posted more info in
another newsgroup, but I wouldn't expect the trolls to know that.. they
patrol this group, looking to antagonize at every available opportunity..
maybe they get a badge for doing it.. who knows or cares.. :)

Stop pretending. You get slapped because you constantly make a fool of
yourself. Simple cure... stop making a fool of yourself and you don't
get slapped.

I don't care if some guy has a MVP behind their name, regarding the
information they are willing to share, it is very interesting however
how many that do have MVP behind their name act like a flipant or as
net cops, a net nanny or self-anointed world authority in newsgroups
and yes, my favorite always pretending they are in charge, then deny
they try to impose their idea of order.

Hint: The label MVP means nothing. No MVP took any test or proved his
knowledge or experience in any way shape or form. Period. It is a
Microsoft marketing gimic to avoid having to hire enough tech support
people to respond to the endless questions and complaints about
Microsoft products.

Actually it is insulting to Microsoft customers that these so-called
"support" groups is Microsoft's idea of supporting their customers.

The biggest shame is the handful of decent, caring MVPs they get
tarnished by the way too many bad apples that also have MVP behind
their name and use it only to attempt to make money with. Now some MVP
pretend that isn't true.

You're way too hung up on some meaningless symbol Mike. WAY TOO HUNG
UP since we both know it means nothing. I'm sorry you seem to suffer
from a inferiorty complex. I'm sorry many here know WAY MORE then you
do about Windows and PCs in general. That seems to be the biggest
reason some MVPs get upset. They get shown up daily by the people
they're suppose to be helping.

Priceless!

ROTFLMAO!

Hasn't anybody ever given you a badge, Adam? Are you feeling left out?

Adam, you are getting WAY TOO HUNG UP on the Microsoft MVP FAQ. Especially
this one:

Q8: What does Microsoft expect of its MVPs?

A8: Because MVP status is awarded based on past contributions, Microsoft has
no expectations of MVPs beyond the expectations of courtesy,
professionalism, code of conduct, and adherence to the community rules that
we ask of all Microsoft community members. These rules can be found on the
Microsoft Communities Rules of Conduct page.

It seems like a few MVP's in these forums didn't read this one. I think the
courtesy, professionalism and code of conduct rules were missed at the last
summit. There are some OUTSTANDING MVP's out there, but there are a few bad
apples, too. It's like that everywhere you go, though. I feel that it should
be up to other MVP's to help with the problem by email or their MVP leads.
You are not the only one in here complaining about the MVP conduct, and it
does give the MVP status some tarnish. Let's hope they can get the behaviour
under control and help make the MVP status a good thing again.

I've seen a few that need some "consultation". Sometimes, they just cause
more problems than the original insult, and it looks childish. The few MVP's
that I refer to have already been called out several times in these groups
(well, they mostly only hit *.general!), I'm not naming names. With so many
insults, why give them a reason to insult? It's just a personal
obeservation, really. Although, the insults have been incredibly bad lately,
but a few of the trolls have started to move on and actually help others,
which is a good thing.

The MVP program is a great program, and I see a lot of very useful posts.
But, a few of them are demeaning and rude. Against the MVP creedo. I don't
mind seeing a good arguement, a lot of times both come out knowing more.
But, there are also a lot of cheap shots that I can see coming from the
trolls, but the MVP's should be above that. You all do great work, and I
hope to be there someday. In the meantime, I'm learning more and more about
Vista & Longhorn and helping out in anyway I can. Just don't let it go to
your heads (speaking to all MVP's, no one in particular). You were chosen
because you helped a lot of people, and show exceptional knowledge in the
products you were chosen for. But, you were also chosen because you acted
professional and calmly. I'd just like to see the "Professional" put back
into Microsoft Most Valuable Professional. You are already very valuable to
this community.

This isn't aimed at anyone in particular, and can be taken as is.

Adam, you are getting WAY TOO HUNG UP on the Microsoft MVP FAQ. Especially
this one:

Since I never read the MVP FAQ, I couldn't get "hung up" on it. But
hey said:
Q8: What does Microsoft expect of its MVPs?

The problem aside from them not following the "rules" is none of the
good MVPs do a damn thing about the misconduct of the bad apples
either. Its like there are always a few bad cops in every department.
One reason why is the good cops always look the other way. Same deal
with MVPs. If anybody is suppose to be in charge of the program they
must be asleep.

There are MVP leads, but I'm not sure how much power they have other than
acting as a more direct liason to the Microsoft dev teams. I was joking on
the hung up part... Just a pun on a previous post of yours!

Secret handshake takes a while to learn I've heard. It involves three
fingers and three keys. :-)

But, I fullheartedly agree on your statement: The problem aside from them
not following the "rules" is none of the
good MVPs do a damn thing about the misconduct of the bad apples
either. Its like there are always a few bad cops in every department.
One reason why is the good cops always look the other way.

A lot of MVP's are truely great people, and it is the few that make the rude
comments (and people do notice: I followed a link in the sig of a recent
troll and there were quite a few quotes from MVP's that made it in there
that shouldn't have been!) that really kill the MVP status. Let's just hope
that the attention will help, and things will calm down a bit.

The end justifies the means excuse to act like a smartass.

Let me explain the facts of life to you kid. There is no we. You speak
only for yourself. Any time you or anybody attempts to pretend they
speak for others they automatically make a fool of themselves by so
doing unless you're speaking in some official capacity which you
clearly are not.

Second, since you treasure your MVP status so, you would think you
would conduct yourself more appropriately since you are a unoffical
representative of what Microsoft is attempting to do in these
newsgroups. You seem to go out of your way to be an embarrassment,
insulting customers, mocking them and in general act like a doofus.
That isn't what you're suppose to be here for and trust me, such
conduct has not gone unnoticed or unreported.

Third, if you or any other MVP can't take a little flack, then get out
of the newsgroup, you don't belong here if you're a thin skinned
little prima donna who gets his feeling hurt so easily and then seeks
out revenge by provoking more heated exchanges to compensate for your
lack of self control and low self-esteem.

I agree Mike, and most of the other MVP's, you are doing a good job :)
Ignore Adam, he is the first to insult others, especially anything related
to MS.
G

Adam, you are truely offensive, be nice for a change, it is always you I see
insulting others, in fact you insult just about everyone here.
G

Adam maybe you should become an MVP, and show the rest of us how it is
supposed to be done, then maybe we would not have to hear your insults to
others anymore, because you would actually adhere to a code of conduct, wait
you could not do that. Bad idea for you to become an MVP, you would just
give them a bad name.
