My Pentium III has 256MB RAM. After Startup already about
155MB is beeing used according to the Taskmanager, cutting
my capacity in half. What makes this happen and how can it
be solved?

what is your operating system (2kPro, 2kServer, 2kAdvanceServer.. etc) and
what programs (processes) are running? You seem to be familiar with the
TaskManager, look there for more details as to what is taking up your
memory.

if you have lots of things running in the system tray, this is very common.
