Ram for P4P800 Deluxe

Tony

I am building a new machine and already have the mainboard (p4p800 Deluxe)
and cpu (p4 2.6 800mhz). Have been really confused about the speed and
manufacturer of ram to buy (so many choices and articles about them). Want
to get Dual Channel and for now (maybe in the future) won't be oc'ing. What
do you recommend?

Tony,

I build up two machines with Asus P4P800 Dlx, one has got Micron/Crucial RAM
and the other one runs with 2 216*** Samsung. Both machines works fine
during five months. I normaly don't overclock, still, I did just have a try
with my P4 C 2.8 and get it @ 3.5, nevertheless processor Sandra tests were
under what one would expect with faster memory...

.... anyway, the day after, I set it back in the BIOS with default parameters
has I don't intend to keep my machines o/c for a few % speed up. I think
differences are fantastics with Sandra tests , but this is not true in
practice in real life.

*** BTW two 216 are enough for almost purposes, IMHO you'd better saving the
money for high speed HD and/or graphic card, that's just my own opinion, of
course;-))

RTFM and consult the QVL on the web site for your mainboard or the
update guide at Crucial's.

Well reading the Manual and consulting the QVL is fine, but I think what the
guy is getting at is that, as this board has been around a while, what sort
of RAM have people put in it and how did they rate it. He wants tried/tested
solutions, not the minimal stuff available on the asus site.
Maybe instead of offering your (decidedly) unhelpful opinions, you could be
a little constructive. Or should I send the boys round??

I bought a gig (2x512) of Winbond PC3200 CAS 2.0 from hardcorecooling.com.
It's rated at 2-2-3-6 and that's what I'm running right now. I have tested
it for 8hrs with memtest86 without errors. I haven't attempted any
overclocking as of yet. This place had great prices and excellent service.
It was shipped the same day that I ordered it and arrived 2 days later (UPS
Ground). The place is in CT and I'm in RI so that would account for the
quick shipping. Here's the link. Check it out,

Try and buy the best/most PC3200(+) ram you can afford. Two sticks of
512mb ram is nice for multi-threading, you'll need two sticks to take
advantage of duel-channel speed. Or maybe two sticks of 256mb, if your
applications are not on the heavy side.

I asked the same question here a few days ago, about ram-choice for
a new P4P800, and got a reply mentioning (un buffered) Corsair XMS DDR
PC3500 ram. That's what I bought, and am very happy with it (a bit
more expensive but fast and reliable, and the MB recommends this ram).

There are lots of choices in the P4P800 manual, but best to buy (at
least) PC3200 ram, for your P4 2.6/800. Don't get anything below
PC3200 speed ram.

A 512mb stick of PC3200 ram ranges from about $60, up to $250.00.
