If the motherboard has a RAID chip on it it's worth using that.
It's arguable that stand alone RAID cards are better quality but I'm not convinced.
So, motherboard chip or card, which are basically both hardware. Avoid any RAID setups carried out within OS via dedicated software, it's not efficient compared to a hardware setup.
Thanks for the info. Sold my car last week as I really don't need it when I have a work van, so been thinking of building a new PC which will be for gaming as well as music storage for my laptop and other PC, so thought RAID would be a good way to go
