Raid 5 Import Problem - Data Incomplete with all disks present

I am operating a server with WIn2K Server, SP2. The system consists of:

40G boot drive
8 x 160G S/W Raid 5 volume using 2x Promise Ultra 133 cards.

Recently, the boot disk failed (unable to boot).

I made another boot disk and loaded it with Win2k Server, SP2, drivers,
etc.

Upon attempting to import the 8 drives, disk manager recognized the set
and displayed it as an 8/8 Raid volume.

Upon selecting import, the message "data incompete" set was displayed.
At this point, I stopped.

This message is self-contradictory as Microsoft's knowledge base states
that "data incomplete" means a missing disk. Well ... 8/8 appears
complete to me.

Any suggestions?

As additional info, I still have the old boot disk. While it won't
boot, any "registry-like" data pertaining to the array should still be
there if useful.

Alternately, is there a boot repair mechanism that could be applied
without destroying the array data?

Thanks again.

I believe the MS err.msg refers to a win.software raid, not a hw raid
You might be better advised to consult Promise tec.

The array is a software RAID. The Promise cards are just being used as
IDE channels.
