RAID 1 Mirror Rebuild After BIOS Upgrade

Hey Folks,

I have a SIL3114 based RAID controller (made by SIIG) which I use to
run 2 sets of mirrored drives. I updated to the latest SIL3114 BIOS
provided on the Silicon Image website, and upon reboot into WinXp the
controller began the process of rebuilding the mirrors.

Is this normal? Do mirrors normally need to be rebuilt after upgrading
the controller BIOS?

Thanks,

Steve

I think somebody screwed up. Usually there is no need to
rebuild/resync if the array was shut down clean.

Wouldn't Windows rebuild around the new BIOS and thereby cause the
mirror to rebuild?

SiI thinks so. Not in general.

Clueless. Windows does not know about SiI's RAID.

After a bios upgrade all your BIOS info is wiped by default, refill
your BIOS info and with some luck your data will be there once the
array is defined.
