radeon, viewsonic and vista display problem

after installing vista 5384 and installing the vista drivers from ATI for the
radeon 9600 the monitor screen flickers every 2-3 seconds, I have tried all
the various refresh rates and resolution settings but the flicker persists, I
have it set up on a dual boot system with XP and everything else seems to
work incredibly well just the screen problem in vista, when I boot to XP the
flicker goes. viewsonic dont seem to have any vista drivers available, anyone
got any ideas on a fix for this?

thanks

Yup, also have a radeon 9600XT and in 5384 I get a black stripe (about 1 -2
inches thick) that flashes in random places on screen. The mouse also freezes
for the duration of this flash.

Here's the "fix":

Just update the driver either to the one that came with windows or to the
one from ATI's website, and the problem goes away AS LONG AS YOU DON'T
RESTART WINDOWS. Once you do, the problem comes back. Hibernation does not
cause the comeback, so use that.

Hope that helps.

Had exactly the same effect the "first" time I installed 5384. Dont whatever
you do try and fix it and do use the Hibernate feature as mentioned in the
other reply. I have since reinstalled 5384 many times and have been unable
to replicate this problem (which is weird) and am now running without any
hardware accelleration whatsoever. So blink every few seconds and put up
with it till there is an official patch because as far as I can see there are
precious few Radeon owners out here who can see the Glass interface and run
games (if indeed any run in Vista).

You can add me to this list, same problem.
I have also posted under this topic about this, so it seems we not alone.
So is it only ATI user that are effected, or is there Nvidia or other Brand
card users out there with this problem, or a solution or fix to this
flash/flickering

I am using a Radeon X800XT AIW and it runs perfectly with Glass and all. No
flickers or issues with the Vista drivers.

I ran the Upgrade advsor program on a Machine with a 9250 Radeon it said that
I would need to get vista drivers for it so i brought a Geforce 6200 which
the upgrade advisor said would work wounders.

Nope, it's not just ATI. I have an nVidia 7600GT PCI-e card and my screen
flickers too. Does everyone have a Viewsonic monitor? That's what I have.

I'm in the same boat actually, Graham.

I've submitted a beta client bug report to Microsoft about the flicker
problem. Right now, I'm multi-booting between XP and Vista, and the Vista
install (although a little sluggish) is working fairly well.

I must say though, the Radeon driver for the 9200 on Vista is painful (with
the flicker problem). I find myself relieved majorly to just look away from
the screen at times. I've tried multiple screen refresh rates and sizes,
with no real luck. Apparently, others are having the same problem. It's a
headache maker to be sure. :)

Besides that, the TV out of the card isn't working either, not that that
worries me too much at this juncture. Also can't get the monitor driver to
take. I've got a Korean Data Systems, Visual Sensations VS-195e. (19 inch)
The monitor driver is there, but Vista defaults to the Plug and Play model,
and won't allow me to switch to the present but dead KDS Visual Sensations
driver... go figure.

I was hoping that Omegadrivers might have some test drivers for the Vista
platform for the Sapphire Radeon 9200 SE Series, but no go yet.

Hope Microsoft can do something about the flicker issue. Hard to test the
thing when yer peepers are burnin out of yer head! :))

If you guys find a solution, let me know, K?

I have the same problem, where it seems like the monitors won't quit trying to
re-sync so the screen just keeps going black, then back to the desktop, then
black, etc. etc. every few seconds.

This has been happening on my system since Beta 2 and I have an Nvidia
7800GTX card (so not just an ati problem) and my monitors are both Viewsonic
G220fb's.

If I unplug my Viewsonic monitors and plug in a different monitor (an old
Cybervision) things work fine.

I tried contacting Viewsonic to see if maybe they had some sort of updated
driver info for these monitors to run under Vista but was told that it was
Microsoft's responsibility.

So far I have been unable to find a solution anywhere for this problem.

Yo,
I've run into a similar problem except on my primary display (secondary
burnt out ages ago and I never replaced it :)
My primary only display at 1024X768 instead of the 1280x1024 resolution it
was display prior to upgrade to Vista RC1 32bit.
For some reason, even my catalyst drivers are now saying my monitor can only
display 1024... It's a 17inch CRT so I don't see why it isn't displaying
properly...

Any suggestions?
