I need to set a quiz for marine cadets. Is there a program that would allow
me to write in a set of questions & answers and display them at random?
Some frills like scoring , hidden answers, etc. would be nice as well.

Anyone know of such a program or have experience with anything like this?

I've had hot potato recommended to me for this sort of thing. Haven't
had chance to explore it yet but it is fairly widely used in education
circles.

Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those working for

Many thanks for that. Have downloaded it and will try it out on the weekend.
Much appreciated.

You can set your own questions and display randomly at test time using test generator.

We using test generator for our school. After we practice with test generator 60% students achieved an average of above 80%.
