quicktime converter

I have been looking for quite a while for a freeware quicktime converter.
My camera only takes quicktime movies and the files are huge (20mb+) and
this is useless for email.
I used Bink and Smacker to convert the file to AVI which was even bigger
then used Dr DivX to convert down to divx. This process is not only time
consuming, but Dr Divx is not a freebie and trial will run out soon.
What I am really looking for is something free which will convert the
quicktime files to either divx or windows media directly, rather than using
2 programs.
The only programs I can find are trial shareware. Is there any such tool
around please?

I think it has to be a two step process using freeware. You could go
to VirtualDub (freeware) for the second step.

Thanks. I downloaded it but it does not seem to have video conversion, only
audio. But you have sent me on a new clue for searching, and rather than
looking for a single program, I should go for two seperate programs. The
quicktime bit was the bother, but Bink and Smacker does that, and I am sure
I have seen freeware avi converters around.

Look again. I forget where the option is, but it is there. Basically
you import your avi and then 'save as avi', having chosen the codec -
in your case divx.

Rad Video Tools (donationware) will do .mov to .avi:

Fastest and best way.
TMPGEnc and Quicktime Reader Plugin

TMPGEnc
http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html
Quicktime Reader Plugin for TMPGEnc
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/qtreader_for_tmpgenc.cfm

TMPGEnc will convert to mpg *or*avi. File-->Output To File-->AVI file
I suggest using Koepi's XviD Codec. Best compression and quality.

Once you get everything installed it's a one step process.
