Quicktime and browser integration

Whenever I click on an MP3 link on a webpage, it automatically opens
up in Quicktime, within my browser. How do I change the way it acts
and have the MP3 link open up in say Winamp, rather than in the
browser, through Quicktime?

Thanks

The settings telling QuickTime to open are in either the preferences or
options setting of QuickTime. I don't have Winamp but I would guess there is
a similar place to tell it to become the preferred device. You just have to
look for it.

I had looked everywhere within Quicktime and IE before posting here.
I couldn't find anything, so I came looking for help here.

Why are you hunting around inside Quicktime? You really think they will
code for every known application out there that can play MP3 files so
they can graciously reconfigure the association so that other
application will handle the playback? You pull associations. You
cannot push them, especially since the other product to which you push
may not even be installed. Why are you concerned about associating a
filetype to an application that you don't have yet? You do NOT say that
you have WinAmp.

Like Jerry said, go hunting around inside WinAmp or whatever it is that
you want to use and is *installed* and configure it to be associated
with the .mp3 filetype. You use WinAmp to *pull* the filetype
association. If you want Windows Media Player to play .mp3 files then
use its options to pull that filetype association. Whenever you decide
on what you want to playback .mp3 file, and after you get it installed,
then you THAT application to pull the filetype association to it.

dude, my Winamp is already configured to play mp3 files.
whenever i click on an mp3 file on my computer, Winamp kicks in and
plays it.
in the past, if i clicked on say a video file link in IE, it played
through media player.
once i installed quicktime, doesn't matter what video file type i
click on, IE opens the link, embedded in the browser, using quicktime.
are you saying quicktime didn't adjust file associations through it's
plugin features?
hard to think otherwise given prior to installing it, video files
other than in the quicktime format played externally through media
player.

i've checked through winamp many times, and it's associations are
fine.

As I recall, during the install of QuickTime it presents a screen as to
which, if any, filetype associations you want to yank for it to be
assigned to. Uncheck them all and continue the install. That's not
just a problem of QuickTime. An install of RealPlayer, FreshView, and
many other multimedia viewers or players will try to yank the filetype
associations. That means you go back into the player that you really
want to have the associations and yank them back. Some players also
will perform a check when the filetype associations have been yanked
away and yank them, so you have to enable the option for them to NOT
yank them back.

Does WinAmp operate as a plug-in to IE? QuickTime does so obviously it
can get at the downloads before the filetype association gets employed.
Have you tried configuring QuickTime's plug-in to *NOT* play movies
automatically as they are downloaded by your browser? Although you
mention that WinAmp is configured to get assigned to the desired
filetypes, have you also checked in QuickTime that it is *NOT*
configured to also associate to those filetypes? Although the filetype
assocations are defined in the registry, I would think it would be
possible for a plug-in, like QuickTime, to usurp those associations. It
gets to handle them first.
