QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime (.mov .qt) files.
This way there is no need to install the offical QuickTime Player. As a
bonus, Internet Explorer will play all QuickTime movies that are embedded
in a webpage. You do need a player that is capable of handling QuickTime
movies. The included Media Player Classic works very well with QuickTime.

Now this is a lawsuit just waiting to happen. :)

I agree, because:

A.) Whoever created the package is using Apple's own codec, not a
codec which the QT Alternative author made himself, and

B.) The author of QT Alternative is distributing Apple's IP without
having licensed it.

That being said, if the internet has taught me one thing, it's that
it's not so easy to kill off software with just a lawsuit. Look at
applications like deCSS, Y'z dock, etc, which despite threats (and
sometimes follow-through) of legal action, can still be found quite
easily.

Quicktime for Linux lets you read and write Quicktime movies using several
codecs. There are many Quicktime libraries for Linux; this one emphasizes
reliability and accuracy while not stressing economy. Also included are
frontends to several of the codecs which don't require Quicktime
encapsulation, header dump, chunk extraction, and recovery tools.

Changes:
ffmpeg has been migrated to 0.4.8. MJPEG has been debugged. There are other
minor bugfixes.
