Quick Question-Restoring XP discs

Brian

Hi
If I reinstall my Hard drive, and let's say it's a
different model than my previous HD, can I use the same
QuickRestore CD's that came with my laptop?
I have a Compaq Presario 2700, & XP home.

Any and all information is much appreciated!

Most quick restore disks are BIOS locked, they will only
install to the same motherboard/BIOS supplied by the
manufacturer (HP/Compaq). Usually you would boot the
computer with the CD in the drive and if the BIOS was
correct, the install would run.

Check the HP/Compaq website www.hp.com for your system and
FAQs for such. Or read the manual.

If the only thing that is changing is the hard drive then using the
QuickRestore CD will only re-create a partition the same size as the
original partition when the "image" was made. You could then create another
partition or get Partition Magic 8 to expand the partition.

If the entire laptop is changing, then do not use the QuickRestore CD. It
may not work correctly.
