Quick Launch Task Bar

When I add items to my quick launch bar, the bar doubles in height. How do I
keep it as a single bar?

Pull it back down to one bar (left click on the top of the bar and then drag
it down).

Hi,

As you add programs to your Quick Launch Toolbar, you may want to adjust the
size so they all display.

1. Right click on an open area of your Taskbar.

2. Check to be sure the Lock Taskbar option is turned off. If a check
displays, click once on Lock Taskbar to remove it.

Once the taskbar is unlocked, a size bar (series of dots) displays to the
left of the Quick Launch Toolbar. Another size bar displays to the left of
the application area of the Taskbar. Clicking and dragging the size bar
allows you to resize various areas of the Taskbar.

Hope this helps...

What happens when you attempt to drag the bar to single height? Do you get
the double arrow?

You've got the right side "end" of the Quick Launch bar set too far to
the right. What happens is that the end "margin" of the QuickLaunch
toolbar has gotten so far over to the right that it is now down below.
Unlock the Taskbar and then "grab" the dotted line on the bottom bar
and drag it up to immediately to the right of the QuickLaunch icons.
Now you've successfully made the QuickLaunch toolbar shorter and can
"grab" the top bar of the Taskbar and "push" it down to the regular
one-tier height. Now carefully move the end dotted line over to the
right a little bit so you have more room to add icons. When you're
finished adding the icons, you may want to lock the taskbar.

When you unlock the task bar, and get the double headed arrow, and press the
left mouse button, does the border around the task bar change in appearance
at all?

Hi, GNJPM05.

When I add too many items to my QL toolbar, the extra ones create a
"drop-down" (drop-up(?), actually) menu that lets me pick from a list of the
extra programs that won't fit within the bar.

There is a weird situation that some users (including me, once) encounter.
I have trouble re-creating it and don't recall all the details. But it
relates to the width of the Taskbar itself.

As others have said, you can drag'n'drop the dotted size bar to increase or
decrease the width of the QL toolbar (changing the width of the main Taskbar
in the process). When your Taskbar is double height, you can drag the
dotted size bar on the second line further right than the similar bar on the
top line. This seems to confuse the Taskbar settings. When the Taskbar is
double height, the QL Toolbar is also double height and the "menu" I
mentioned above doesn't happen - until there are even more icons here.

So, try this: When your Taskbar/QL Toolbar are double height, grab that top
size bar and drag it DOWN to the bottom line of the Taskbar. This should
give you back some control. Then drag the Taskbar down to single height.
Finally, drag the size bar left or right to suit yourself.

Let us know what you find out about this so we can use that information to
help others with the problem. In a newsgroup, we all learn from each other.

When I unlock the task bar it appears there is a second bar behind it. When
I get the double headed arrow and press the left mouse button, the border
around the task bar does not change in appearance.

The solution suggested by Malke has resolved the problem. Thanks for working
with me on this.

Great job.
Fortunately, I cannot induce my taskbar to replicate this misbehavior. If it
should decide to go bad, though, I have the solution.
Thanks.
