quick launch icon

I have Windows XP Home Edition. How do I had a "Show
Desktop" icon to my quick launch taskbar?
 
What it does is minimize all open windows at once instead of closing them
individually. Many people have several windows open simultaneously and this
is the fastest way to get to the desktop.

And I have been minimizing all the windows individually for the last five
years? LOL..........Thanks for the explanation. I will be using that icon a
lot now.

You're welcome. The keyboard shortcuts winkey + d and winkey + m perform the
same function as the show desktop icon.
 
I know this is a stupid question, but what is that for anyway? I have never
hit the restore desktop icon on the Quick Launch in five years of using my
computers and have always wondered what it is there for.

Carolyn,
It is handy when there are numerous windows and software opened on
your screen and you need to get to an icon on your desktop. Just click
it and ALL windows minimize and let you easily get at your desktop.
