Quick input of accented letters?

I know that one can input accented letters using the ALT key and
the appropriate numeric codes (e.g. ALT+0225 produces á), but this
is cumbersome, and it is difficult to remember all the numeric
codes. On my Linux system at home, all I need to do is send the
terminal the code 117 (on my keyboard this is the key to the right
of the righ-hand-side Windows key), along with a single quote, and
then type the letter a. The resulting character will be á. This
is almost as cumbersome, but at least it is easy to remember.

Is there a way to configure Win2000 to enable a similarly simple
input method for accented letters?

Thanks!

I don't think so. However, in Microsoft Word you can type this sequence
Ctrl+Shift+~ A
to get Ã.

Install the US International keyboard. Then you can enter, say, "è" by
typing "`" followed by "e"; or "ç" by typing "," followed by "c"; etc.
