Quick Formatting question

Still learning my way around fp, and one thing is irritating me and I'm
hoping for a quick solution: frequently I find myself wanting to use the
color picker to select a color within an element that I want to apply that
color. For example, I have a graphic in a table and I want the table
background color to match the graphic color, so I'd like to use the color
picker to select the graphic color as the table background color.

However, when I go in to modify the table properties, the table is
automatically selected (along with everything in it) and I can't choose the
color I want to make the modification. Is there any way around this?

TIA.

Haha. No. No secret.

I found that if I just right click over the table I want to format, and
choose "table properties", it doesn't actually highlight the table like it
would if I clicked on the little "table" tag at the top of the design window.
