Quick and easy labeling

So if I put 1 2 3 4 5, or 2 4 6 8 acending in a row of cells, then
highlight them, I can pull the row out and extend the pattern out
automatically without typing the numbers.

My question is: Can I preform the same action on date labels in this
format:
2002/03 2003/04 2004/05 2005/06 and so on... using the same type of
click and drag extension and if so, how?

If not, is there a formula I can use that will add one, only to the
appropriate numerals, ie. 2004/05, only the 4 and 5... and so on?

Enter 2002 in A1

Right-click and drag down Column A

Release button and "Fill Series" from the pop-up menu.

In B1 enter /03

Drag same as Column A

In C1 enter =A1&B1 to get 2002/03

Drag down Column C.

Copy column C and Paste Special(in place)>Values>OK>Esc

Delete A and B columns.

This solution almost seems to work, but instead of:
2002/03 2003/04 2004/05 .... I wind up with:

2002/03 2002/04 2002/05...

Did I miss something or can someone explain what I should do instead?

When you placed 2002 in A1 did you right-click, drag down and release and
"Fill Series" or just copied the 2002 all the way down?

You should have 2002 in A1, 2003 in A2, 2004 in A3 etc.

Maybe try 2002 in A1 and 2003 in A2.

Select them both and drag down. They will increment.

I prefer the right-click so's I have to type only one number.

Try this:

Enter 2002.03 in the first cell, and 2003.04 in the second cell.
Select *both* cells and drag to copy.
When finished, and while all the cells are *still selected*, go to <Edit>
<Replace>,
And replace the decimal with a slash.

Depending on how large your copy range is, you may have to add a zero or two
to the end of some of the cells ending in 10, 20, or 30.
