Hi, i have a very strange question and i hope someone can give me some ideas.
i have set my folders to be arranged by name, from A to Z. however, when i
try to open a file in the Paint program, or add an attachment in Outlook
Express from same folders, they are arranged from Z to A. If i tried to
rearrange then, they will be changed to A to Z. however, when i tried to open
another file again, they are still listed from Z to A. MS Word or Excel do
not have this issue. i have tried to create a new account and the issue also
occurs in the new account.

i think this issue is related to registry keys which control the folder
settings.
any ideas are appreciated.

In a file folder (not a special folder like My Comp) in a folder window (explorer) sort how you want the File Open dialog to appear. Then Ctrl + X on the titlebar.

yes, i have already sorted the files i want. all the folders are from A - Z.
however, if i try to open a file in Paint (File menu-> Open), they are still
listed from Z - A and cannot be changed. i am quite familiar with those
settings.

actually, you are even more stupid. i know you knew nothing from you first
post. please don't come to MS newsgroup again.

FYI, i am a technician of MS. i just want to see if there are some more
knowledgeable guys before I contact our product team to debug this issue.

you disgust me

There is no issue except your total inability to follow simple instructions. We expect MS technicians to be incompetant.

stop here, do not reply to this post again. because i have already done that
and want to confirm with you but you knew nothing. i have reviewed your
recent posts. i believe you know NOTHING

You are wrong and owe David an apology...

Here is an excerpt from : http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windowsxp.customize/msg/69868b9b967f8445
Plus if you hold down control and click close it also updates
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer
Shellstate=

This is mainly setting irrelevant things except it holds the global sort, which all the others override. But File Open dialog boxes only use this setting, so it basically only affects sorting in File Open dialogs. But it seems that sometimes an earlier windows versions setting get written here and other settings then aren't saved

I hope you don't think that's David's phone number that you added to the message!

Sometimes the "remember each folders view" setting in the registry gets
corrupt. You may want to try the following:

Run regedit.exe

Delete the following keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\BagMRU
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\Bags

Restart windows.

This will delete all saved views for folders. You'll have to reset your
desired folder views.
