Question on member server

Can someone give me some information on setting up a
member server in a windows 2000 environment? A link , or
some step by step guide would be amazing help. The server
is a standalone web server right now and is on a different
subnet, but because I want to setup Exchange 2003 in it I
need to make it a member server at the very least.

Join your server to your domain.

You mean the same way as you join a Windows 2000 desktop?
Won't it automatically inherit the GPO of the parent
domain like all other computers? I had the impression that
making a Windows 2000 server a member of a domain would be
different than a Windows 2000 pro.
