Question on being logged off automatically

M

Michael Bouchard

I have messenger going on 2 computers, at home and work, and at work today I
started being logged off automatically with the message that I have signed
on someplace else. To my knowledge this hasn't happened before, no one is
using my PC at home and I have not made any changes there. Does anyone have
any ideas?

Thanks

Greetings Mike,

This sometimes happens when your computer at home gets disconnected, then attempts to
reconnect, therefore logging you off. There really isn't any way to stop this from
happening, besides shutting down Messenger at home before you leave.

Johnathan,

Question for you. This morning I had forgotten to signoff at home, so I
called and had my wife sign me off. I then logged on at work and about 5-10
min later I was signed off at work with the message that I was signed on
somewhere else. I called home again and found out that I was signed on at
home. I had my wife log me off which will take care of it. My question is
how do I stop messenger from signing on without input from me.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Michael,

Are you just 'logging off' at home, or actually shutting down Messenger? There are a number
of applications (like Outlook Express, Norton Antivirus 2003, and even visiting Hotmail) that
will start Messenger up. What I'd recommend is simply removing your saved password at home
(click the Start Button, then click the Control Panel. Then, click User Accounts in the
Control Panel. Select your account name, and then on the left side of the screen, under
Related Tasks, click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. In the window that opens, click the
Passport.Net\* (Passport) entry and click 'Remove'.). This will then require you to type in
your login/password at home, and therefore nothing can really sign you in automatically.
