Question about XP activation

I was reading on Microsoft's website about activation, particularly the part
about the part about how it checks the hardware and creats a hardware hash
based on the hardware installed. It mentioned that each hardware item it
checks gets one point, except for the network card which gets 3. It said you
don't have to reactivate as long as the total number of points for the
unchanged hardware is 7 or greater. For example, if the network card is worth
3 points then only 4 additional hardware items have to remain the same in order
for you not to have reactivate. So here's my question. If I don't have a
network card, does the fact that I don't have a network card count as 3 points
or do those 3 points that would've come from a network card have to come from
somewhere else? I hope that makes sense.
