I am going to reformat my harddrive. Currently, I have Windows XP
installed. When I format the drive and reinstall XP, I am afraid that
I will not be able to activate it because I already have with my first
installation.

How can I do this? What is my first hard drive went bad or something?
How can I ever install XP again?

Thank you.

If you've only changed your hard drive, it will be a simple as the last time
you activated it. If you've changed no hardware, the same.

Alias

If it has been more than 120 days since the last time you activated, you
should have no problems.

jim,

considering that you just reformatted your hard drive, (and not changed any
hardware) you would be able to activate windows again via the internet. the
worst case would be for you to call a toll free number and give a series of
numbers in exchange for another set.

as an added note, you can even change a few hardware and you would still be
able to activate windows.

hope this helps.

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. Nor is there ever a
charge. If it's been more than 120 days since you last activated
that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to activate via
the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you might have to
make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

What constitutes a new PC then?

Greetings --

A computer that is new. I don't know of any other way to explain
it. What part of "PC" or "new" don't you understand?

You can install as many times as you like on the same (or 'Substantially
the same') hardware. Read up at www.aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm
