Question about shortcuts

Hello,
I have a strange problem with access/xp. I create a shortcut on the desktop
of a computer in my LAN for an access mdb in my file server. The mdb file has
(for this user) full rights in sharing and security, however, when I double
click the shortcut, it seems as if nothing happens, a thing that happens as
well if I right click -> open it.
On the other hand, the file does open, if I open MS access, and open it from
there. Why does that happen? Also, if I double click it from windows
explorer, it does not open as well.

In more detail:

I open Access 2003.
File->Open-> through my network places I find the file and open it.

Run -> \\172.18.100.23
opens the explorer -> finding the file through the explorer -> double click
the file -> does not open, no message or anything, as if I didn't do anything.

Any insight in this?

I had this same issue. I resolved it by going into Internet Options
through IE, Security Tab, Local intranet. Click Sites, click
Advanced. Uncheck require server verification, then add this
website:

file://fileservername

More likely a network mapping problem than an Access problem. Try mapping a
folder to your machine rather than trying to open the file directly with a
shortcut.

One other thing. Access files are best run from a local machine. If you need
to keep the data on the server, split the database, linking the front-end
(code, forms, etc) to the back-end (data tables) on the server. Then place a
copy of the linked front-end on your workstation. You'll find it much more
responsive, and less prone to network induced corruption.
