question about setting "wrong" resolution

A friend of mine has a Ilo 26" tv/monitor hooked to his computer. The other
night he increased the graphics card's (Geforce 7900GT) resolution to a
setting that was too high for his monitor. He said that he accidentally
selected "okay" when asked if he wanted to keep the setting. Now the
monitor will not display anything but colored lines and/or fuzz when he
turns on his computer. He can't even see the POST screen, BIOS, anything,
so he can't get into safe mode, etc.

Now I only have his story to go on, so I don't know any more details. My
question is: If what he said happened actually happened and he is
"resolution locked" out of his computer, what are his options?

thank you,

jm

Reboot the computer and start in Safe Mode. Go to Display and
change the settings to their proper values. Shut down and then
reboot once more.

One approach is boot to Safe Mode Enable VGA. Once XP is up
and running go to Device Manager and uninstall the existing Display
Adapter & then reboot. Enable VGA mode forces display resolution
to be 640-by-480.

I don't think it has anything to do with the rezolution... It is reather a
hardware problem.. Maybe he accidentally unpluged/moved the video card from
the soket, or might be a problem with the video card it self. Check the
signal cables, the video card (be sure is well fited in the soket); make
sure there is nothing interfering with the connections. You can try with an
other card to see if the problem is from the video card o from the mobo...
Or you can try the video card in to an other computer...

Maybe a good story but not the resolution.

POST up to when widows actually boots into the desktop, it's VGA mode
(Safe Mode is VGA)

If your friend can't see the POST, it's hardware, as mention'd above.
