Question about new program

A site I have used for a long time has changed and now it says I need
macromedia flash player to be able to log in. I have seen this several
times, and my question is--is this a free download, and will I need to
purchase a newer version(some sites have indicated a newer version is
required) and what about other media programs I am already using --are
these types of programs compatible or will I still be able to use my
real player, nero, etc. Yes, I am new and no I do not understand all
this, and I only want what I need on my pc., so I quess what I really
want to know is this just the newest player out, and is that why I see
so many sites wanting us to use this player? I just don;t want to mess
up what i have that seems to be working for me, and yet if this is
something new that I may want to go ahead and try, I was wondering if
somebody who knows more about this stuff can give a girl a hand here. I
appreciate any help I can get--thanks in advance!

Flash player is needed for a number of animated sites...
It should install automatically if you allow it to...
and it's not likley to casue any damage to your system

Remember that you can uncheck the Google Toolbar installation prior to
downloading assuming that you may not want it.
