question about MS articles

I've seen alot of KB articles that say "Microsoft doesn't
give support for third party products" or something like
that. Is Microsoft saying do not use third party products
since they don't give support for the software?

Just another in the long list of MS disclaimer, covering their butts
from any liability what-so-ever. Basically, it gives MS tech support
the excuse to say "It's not a problem with our software."

"Trustworthy Computing" is only another example of an Oxymoron!
"Produkt-Aktivierung macht frei!"

No, Microsoft is simply saying that any 3rd party programs
you buy, install and use are the responsibility of that company
to support them. For years too many folks have attributed all
their PC's problems as being Microsoft's fault. Microsoft will
not help users with Symantec, PowerQuest or any other prgm
that doesn't function properly. Unfortunately, one of the lamest
excuses companies use about their software is to place the
blame back on Microsoft. I've had too many calls from frustrated
users who get bounced from one company support line to another.

It may be the only good reason to buy a computer from Dell
or another similar company. If you order exactly the
software you want with the computer, then all your support
for hardware and software comes from the OEM.

Every computer hardware product will give this statement.
Compaq will not offer support if you use a Lexmark/Epson
printer. If you use Quicken Microsoft will not give you
support because it is not Money. McDonalds will not give
your money back if you bought a Wendys hamburger you did
not like. Goodyear will not replace your road-damaged
Firestone tires. Ford will not honor the warrantee of
General Motors. The list goes on...on...on.

The aquarium screensaver in Plus! is third party software.
Search Amazon.com for this.
Microsoft included it in Plus! and will probably offer
support for it because it is included inside a Microsoft
box.

The Greeting software is Hallmark inside Microsoft box but
not sure if Hallmark offers any support. Might. Try.
Hallmark might re-direct to Microsoft.

What business are you in? Would you offer support FREE
for your competitors product? I did not think so.
This question does not apply if you are service industry.
Plumber...electrican...etc. You must be selling a product
line to consumers.

Strange comment about getting OEM support from the
vendor. I have Compaq with winXpOEM out-of-th-box and
am getting weekly(sometimes) updates from Microsoft.
Have only got support from Compaq/HP for old HP keyboard
that needed new driver on XP. My new keyboard is stored
for future emergency use only with drivers on cd. My
monitor is old win3.1 Samsung product still working great.

Updates are different from technical support. Technical support is offered
from the OEM's only, Microsoft will not give free support for a OEM computer
system or OEM XP version purchased with a piece of hardware.
