Question about applying Arctic Silver 5 to a 2100+

I've read that some people put it directly on the CPU, while others put it
on the bottom of the heatsink. Is one method better than the other?

Thanks.

Put a little bit on the CPU, and put a plastic sandwich baggy (the kind
that is not microwaveable) over your finger and spread it out evenly.
You only want a very thin film. Excess gets squished out and makes a
mess and you don't want potentially conductive paste spread over other
parts of the CPU. You want it on the die only.

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

I just read an old post about someone who rubbed AS5 into his heatsink, then
wiped it off (to fill the tiny cracks and air holes).

Should I do this as well?

If you want to. I never do and haven't any issues. I also don't lap the
HS either. I've found it to be unneccessary.

Artic Silver have idiot proof instructions on their site complete with
pictures for the especially inept.

I follow the directions on Arctic Silver's website; they say to spread
it very thinly on the HS (fill in microscopic gaps), and then put a
-tiny- amount (1/2 rice grain size IIRC) on the CPU itself.
