hey guys ,
i was on the rage3d forum and found out that one can flash the bios of a
9800 np to make it 9800pro . i have heard that in the past that ppl have
been able to open the four other rendering pipelines on ati cards . my
question is that if i flash the 9800se card with 9800 pro bios will it open
the locked four rendering pipelines making it equivalent to a 9800 pro or at
least the 9800 np version. my friend had ordered the se version thinking
that it was the non pro version and doesnt wanna go thru the hassle of
returning the entire thing. any ideas ?

I understand that the se version is not upgradeable to a pro through bios
flashing. In fact, from what I can see in this newsgroup and other forums,
only the 9800 non pro with Samsung memory can be successfully upgraded to a
pro through bios flashing. I could be wrong, but I don't think there is any
way to open up the four disabled pipelines on the se version of the card.

Oh boy.

Here it goes (again).

Some 9800SE cards CAN be turned into an 9800np and then further overclocked
to achieve 9800pro speeds. All you need is a patched ATI2MTAG.SYS (to enable
the 8 pipelines) and some overclocking tool (Radtweaker, Radclocker etc..).
No need to flash bios or anything else.

Here's the URL for the softmod. Use google to find the overclocking tool of
desire.

This should work if your card has the 256-bit memory bus (some have a
128-bit mem. bus) and acompaining faster RAM-chips (samsung 3.3ns). Mine
appears to be a genuine ATI card. It has genuine ATI stickers all over it
saying AIW 9800pro!!! But upon use all the relavant info in Windows state
that it actually is an 9800SE. Also according to ATI's database my card is
made by Hercules. This led me to believe that European OEM cards (PAL/SECAM)
are indeed manufactured by Hercules. I considering this a good thing because
of Hercules' good name in this area and the fact that I can enable the 8
pipelines without any problems.

More info at: http://www.ocfaq.com/softmod/faq.php
(The card that I have is the last on that page with a picture)

I hope you have the same luck as I have.
