Query Slow - Intermittent!!!

Bill

Hi All,

I am using Access 2003 on Windows XP Tablet Edition to carry out some basic
analysis of data for statistical reporting. The access database is on the
local c: drive. The number of records in the main table is just under
21,000. The key field in the main table is indexed.

I have designed a few queries that are producing the results I want.
Sometimes the analysis requires a query to be designed that then needs to be
analysed by another cross tab query. I appreciate this may be a bit onerous
but generally the queries run reasonably quickly, like less that a minute,
if not quicker, but occasionally they go really slow, 5 to10 minutes.

Repairing the database does not improve things.

Anyone suggest anything that may stop this behaviour please?

Regards.
Bill.

To be honest, a cross tab of 21,000 records taking a minute is already
horribly slow - irrespective of whether it sometimes takes longer. Could
you post the SQL of the base query and the crosstab?

I've never come across intermittently slow queries. Is the drive getting
full, or badly fragmented?
