query by day, week, month, year

What are the expressions for:
query by day
query by week
query by month
query by year

I need to be able to count items by day, week, month and year.
Also where is this information located for reference.
 
Not sure your definition of "query by day" and mine are the same...

What is it that you are querying? Does the data have a field with a
date/time value in it?
